Venefica Medicus, roughly translating as "witch doctor" is a series of five paintings which explores poisonous nightshade plants who also possess magical qualities; Henbane, Belladonna, Foxglove, Datura, Aconite. Initially under the rule of Hecate in Ancient Greece, these plants became synonymous with black magic in the dark ages (not cooincidentaly with the rise of Christianity) and were anthropomorphized as witches and whores. These plants can be used in small quantities or energetically for healing and magic practices.
Each painting is framed by a "gate" of crystal, plants or iron which serve as protection when journeying into the underworld.
