This series of work represents the seven ancient archetypal planets in planetary alchemy and their corresponding body parts and plants.
Each plant represents an aspect of the planet with which it is paired. For example the Moon sphere (titled Somniferous Sonata) encapsulates Mugwort, Opium Poppy, Marshmallow Root and Skullcap. These Lunar plants support the journey into subconscious depths and our devotion to intuitive knowledge. They often flourish in swampy marsh land, express a silvery or pastel bluish purple coloration and are moistening, cooling and calming to the nervous system.
In planetary alchemy, each planet is associated with a day of the week. Anderst incorporated a ritual element to this series by working on each painting during its designated day (the moon was only created on a Monday for example).
