This series examines the archetypal nature of numbers one through ten. Originating from Pythagorean theory, each geometric composition was created using a compass and ruler and revolves around a single point, circle, and two circles of intersection (called a Vesica Pisces). The Vesica Pisces is an iconographic symbol throughout many esoteric and religious traditions. Through the archetypal imagery of numbers, a visual representation of evolution and the tree of life (in the Kabbalah tradition) emerged as a strong narrative in these ten paintings.
The ninth painting "The Lunar Phase of Evolution" is the visual culmination of this series where the four elements of matter combine with four moon phases and previous emanations of geometry to create the Orphic Egg, a creation-story motif found in the cosmologies of many cultures. The number ten represents the completion of a cycle whereby the system eventually dissolves into entropy and begins again.
